Mrs. Betty J. Smith, 94, of Duncansville, Formerly of Altoona, died at 5:40 AM, Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Smith was born in Altoona, Pa on May 2, 1924, daughter of the late Hassell and Verna (Baird) Stere. She married Francis A. Smith November 9, 1946 in Niagra Falls, NY. He died October 14, 1991.
She retired in 1986 as a retail clerk at Sears Altoona with 20 years of sevice.
She was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Altoona, Pa.
Betty was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a former member of Ladies Guild at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. She enjoyed reading, computer games and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by7 children Sheila (Dale) Evans, of Tyrone, Pa; Donna Hoover, of Altoona, Pa; Nancy Smith, of Imler, Pa; Frances (Joe) Heacock, of Lenhartsville, Pa: Betty Sutton, of Boyertown, Pa; Kenneth (Apryl) Smith, of Duncansville, Pa; Miriam (Bill) Clapper, of Altoona, Pa. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. Betty was [receded in death by 3 bothers Hassell Stere, Bill Stere and Infant Robert Stere.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Altoona, Pa at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 30, with Fr. D. Timothy Grimme officiating.
Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.
Friends will be received Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 5-8 PM at Jones Funeral Home where a Vigil For the Deceased will be held during the visitation.
