Janice A. (Schirf) Battisti, 93, of The Winds of Mattern Orchard, Duncansville, formerly of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 4, 2026. She was born June 24, 1933, Altoona, daughter of the late Louis and Elda (Bloom) Schirf. Preceded in death by her first husband, Anthony F. McNellis Sr. who died on July 18, 1968; and her second husband, Enrico “Hank” Battisti who died on June 7, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Jason Peters; and by her two brothers, Gerald F. and Kenneth L. Schirf. Survived by her children, Anthony McNellis Jr. of Altoona; Susan Conrad of Gallitzin; Judith Andros of Fredericksburg, VA; her stepson, Henry Battisti of Altoona; and her stepdaughter, Debra VanDuren; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; and brother, Donald J. Schirf. Janice was a 1951 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a 1954 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She took immense pride in her career as a registered nurse, serving with dedication during her years of employment with both Conrail and the Altoona Area School District. Janice was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and a past member of the Catholic Nurses Association, Juniata Civic Association, Good Sam Camping Club, and Air Force Memorial Foundation. She enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting and traveling. A special thanks to the caring hospice nurses of UPMC Family Hospice. Friends and family will be received Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 4p.m. until 7 p.m., Rose Hill Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 10:30 a.m., Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 806 11th St., Altoona, Fr. Patrick Corrigan celebrant. Committal Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
