Miss Joan Terese Mitchell, age 88 of Duncansville, formerly of 2703 - 6th Ave. Altoona died Monday evening, April 11, 2016 at UPMC - Altoona. Her friends knew her as Joany, but her family called Joanne or Aunt Jo.

Miss Mitchell was born in Altoona, Pa on February 26, 1928, daughter of the late John Thomas and Hilda P. (McAteer) Mitchell.

She retired in 1990 as an Administrative Secretary at Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center (VOTECH) in the Practical Nursing Program Altoona with 21 years of service.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altoona, Pa.

Jona granduated from Altoona Catholic High School. She was a member of the Legion of Mary for 67 years and Third Order of Carmelite Sisterrs. She enjoyed playing pinochle and scrabble.

Joan is survived by two sisters - in law Jean Ann Mitchell and Susan Marie Mitchell both of Altoona and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 4 siblings William Kermit, John Joseph , James Gregory and Geraldine Louise Mitchell.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, Pa at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 15, 2016.

Friends will be received from 5 - 8 PM Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Jones Funeral Home where a Vigil for the Decaeased will be held at 4:45 PM.
