John David Strayer

John D. Strayer, 78, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 18, 2025 at his residence. Born October 11, 1946, Altoona, son of the late John F. and Margaret “Helen” (Rudy) Strayer. Preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Bryan; and nephew, Shawn Bryan. Survived by his children, Staci Strayer, Altoona; and John C. Strayer and wife, Brenda, McKeesport; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Kari Strayer; 2 step-grandchildren, Alycia and Dustin Swope; great-grandson, Porter Pipetti; siblings, Joan Dodson, and Joseph and James Strayer, all of Altoona; and numerous nieces and nephews. John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965-1968, earning the rank of sergeant. He retired from Conrail as a machinist. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Stanislaus Kostra Brotherhood. He was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed shooting pool. At John’s request, there will be no viewing. A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family at a later date to be announced.
