Mrs. Joyce L. Steinbauer, 75, of Martinsburg, formerly of Moser Road, Altoona, died Sunday, August 19, 2018 at UPMC – Altoona following a brief illness.

Mrs. Steinbauer was born in Altoona on May 30, 1943, daughter of the late Robert F. and Pauline A. (Simpson) Hermesky. Joyce was raised in the home of Hobert and Verna Vipond, her great aunt and uncle. She married Norman E. Steinbauer July 27, 1963 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bellwood.

She was a homemaker. Joyce previously was employed by Vipond’s Restaurant in Canoe Creek for seven years.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry.

Joyce was a 1961 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She enjoyed farming, reading, Sudoku, picture puzzles, sewing, stamp-collecting and bird watching.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Gloria (Walter) Johnson of Aurora, CO; Norman E. (Kihye) Steinbauer Jr. of Black Lick, OH; Robert Francis Steinbauer of Wichita, KS; and Jeffrey Leo (Jean) Steinbauer of Dumfries, VA; and a brother, Robert “Ivan” (Barbara) Hermesky of Sparks, NV. She is also survived by six grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by a son, infant Steinbauer; a sister Patricia Stafford and a brother Gary Hermesky Sr.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 704 Patrick Lane, Newry, with Father Allen Zeth officiating.

Committal will be held at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

Friends will be received from 12:30 p.m. to the 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2018 funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Newry.
