Robert P. Carey, 73, Altoona, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024 at UPMC Altoona. Born April 6, 1951, Altoona, son of the late John A. Jr. and Georgette N. (Kelley) Carey. Preceded in death by his nephew, Jimmy Lego. Survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary M. (Johnston) Carey, whom he married on July 3, 1976; son, Thomas J. Carey, Altoona; daughter, Robin D. DeMackiewicz and husband Daniel, Palmyra; granddaughter, Diana DeMackiewicz; siblings, Gerald Carey and wife Edie, Joanie Romine and husband George, Barbara Benson and husband William, Mary Albright and husband Glenn, and Joseph Carey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was a 1969 graduate of Altoona High School. He worked as a carmen/welder for Conrail and also helped his father with his business, Carey Furnace Co. Robert was a jack of all trades, being able to work on anything, especially vehicles. He enjoyed training his dogs, building computers, reading and helping anyone he could. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family. Friends and family will be received Friday, August 2, 2024 from 4-7 p.m., Jones Funeral Home, Altoona. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 10 a.m., Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Msgr. Stanley Carson celebrant. Committal Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
