Obituary

Virginia Ann “Red” Gilyard, 78, Altoona, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at UPMC Altoona surrounded by her family. Born June 13, 1945, Altoona, daughter of the late Paul W. and Mae V. (Dunn) Klein. Survived by her loving husband, Charles Gilyard; children, Harold (Tina) White III and Lisa Jo Lunghofer; three grandchildren, Sarah Riter, Allie Burdette and Gabriel Little; great-granddaughter, Audree Riter; siblings, Paul (Ronnie) Klein, Sue (Mel) Woleslagle, Terri (Joe) Arnsparger, John (Tina) Klein and Steve Klein; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Hattie Mae Gilyard; many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and her two pets, Scooter and Max. Preceded in death by her grandson, Harry Boy; sister, Sandy Ott; brother, Bob (Judy) Klein; nieces, Heather VanKlavern and Tammy Dutko; nephew, David Berkheimer; and great-nephew, Zachary Klein. Red worked in the administrative dept. for the Bank of New York. She loved getting her nails done. Red also enjoyed socializing and helping at the Central Blair Senior Center, Altoona. At her request, there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 3 p.m., Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, Pastor Don Mast, officiant. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, An Anderson Family Firm, 1222 13th Avenue, Altoona. Condolences may be made at JonesFHAltoona.com.
